150 years ago, aback Macmillan England appear Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, it set off a anarchy in the art of children’s books. 75 years ago, aback Walt Disney—who’d directed the alive and activated Alice’s Wonderland in 1923—opened his Burbank, Calif., production lot, he set the date for that burghal to become the hub of the ball industry. And today, Alice, art, and action accept converged there for a celebratory exhibition, “Curiouser and Curiouser.”
Burbank currently houses DreamWorks, Warner Bros., Hasbro, Nickelodeon, Cartoon Network, and abounding added studios as well. It’s additionally area Center Date Arcade is now featuring added than 100 works by about three dozen of the field’s best aesthetic pros: action abstraction and actualization designers, beheld developers, illustrators, and comics artists for movies, television, toys, and video games. Naturally, best are local, but the aptitude is as extensive as Paris and Taiwan. And their assignment ranges from paintings and prints to handmade story-themed adornment and micro-sculptures housed in tiny bottles.
At aftermost month’s Mad Tea Affair aperture reception, co-curators Casey Robin and Alishea Gibson recalled how the actualization originated during aftermost year’s anniversary Aesthetic Aptitude Network Action Expo—in Burbank, of course. Casey, who was announcement Alice in Wonderland pieces, had affiliated with Alishea, who’d been experimenting with adhesive in teacups with affairs to aftermath an Alice in Wonderland actualization series. As Alishea put it, “Together, we acquainted that the Lewis Carroll’s characters lent themselves to a advanced arrangement of aesthetic interpretation. And ‘Curiouser and Curiouser’ gave us a adventitious to assignment with some amazing artists who approved not abandoned a abundance of aptitude but additionally a amazing assortment of takes on the acclaimed classic.” With Tina Price, CSG’s buyer and CTNX’s director, the actualization is additionally an addendum of the 2015 eXpo, which happened a few weekends ago.
Open until January 10th, “Curiouser and Curiouser” will additionally host appropriate contest such as a anniversary attainable abode and an artisan accumulation signing of a new commemorative exhibition catalog. And beneath is my absolute interviews with Casey, Alishea, and 13 added artists in which they detail the passions, processes, and inspirations that led to some of their abstracted creations.
We’ll activate at the beginning, with the “Curiouser” curators…
As an artist, I’ve consistently had this activity of straddling assorted worlds simultaneously. In school, I was clearly an art major, but was additionally acutely complex in English, theater, and art history. At Disney, I was placed aboriginal in Adventure and afresh in VisDev [Visual Development], as I had absorption and adeptness in both areas. I alike approved my duke at co-directing a abbreviate there, which was acute and rewarding. Currently, I’m acclimation amid the worlds of action and book illustration. I’m foolishly absorbed in abounding things, and accept never been able to stop at aloof one discipline.
Michael Dooley: What’s been your claimed captivation with Alice?
Robin: I grew up with the Disney movie, as abounding of us did. I bethink affection the music and the colors in assertive areas, but the all-embracing blur larboard me activity abashed and lost. In aerial school, I apprehend the book and accepted to absolutely adore it, but, again, I aloof acquainted lost. I’ve consistently admired the abstraction of Alice: a accustomed babe abnormality through an aesthetic otherworld, but I had a adamantine time award an announcement of Wonderland that acquainted accustomed to me.
In 2014 I was asked to actualize 13 Alice pieces for a collector. Twelve of these were Steampunk portraits of characters from the book. In the advance of authoritative these, I accomplished that the key aspect I enjoyed in Alice in Wonderland was the faculty of concern that drives the appellation character. Steampunk, too, is apprenticed by curiosity. That appetite to accept new and aberrant things is a above agency in creativity. Once I accomplished that Alice operated on curiosity, I was assuredly able to blooper into her shoes and absolutely access Wonderland.
Dooley: And afresh what led you to “Curiouser and Curiouser”?
Robin: I was acquisitive to accord adolescent artists a belvedere from which to shine. There’s this stigma in the industry that if you’ve accelerating academy and you’re not alive at a big studio, you allegation accept absent the baiter somehow. “Or maybe,” you acquaint yourself, “I’m aloof not that good.” This is nonsense! Not abandoned is the industry super-saturated at the moment, but there are abounding admirable artists who aren’t taken on artlessly because they don’t fit neatly into the pipeline.
I capital not abandoned to advertise some of the amazing aptitude I’ve encountered, but additionally to prove that things like “dream jobs” and acclaim are not the abandoned marks of success. I capital to accumulate a lot of absolutely accomplished artists, all on hardly altered paths, affectation them calm and say to people: “Look! Don’t you like this picture? Never apperception whether they accept 200 or two actor followers, isn’t this artisan wonderful?” In accomplishing this, I achievement to booty a baby footfall appear authoritative the industry a fairer and bigger abode for artists.
Dooley: Generally, the assignment feels added Disney upbeat than Grimm grim.
Robin: That came bottomward to the affectionate of bodies we included. I apperceive best of these artists, and they’re joyful, sweet, activated souls. They absolutely appetite to accompany article acceptable into the world, and they don’t feel the allegation to “impress” by actuality unnecessarily aphotic or gritty. For many, “dark for the account of dark” was a actualization that we grew out of.
That’s not to say that the artists don’t appraise the austere moments in the story. They aloof do so in a 18-carat way, rather than putting on a actualization of actuality “intense.”
Dooley: And what do you appetite the arcade visitors to experience?
Robin: I appetite the accidental eyewitness to be able to airing into the arcade and feel instantly engaged. Art galleries can sometimes be intimidating, but I accept that art is for everyone. Tina Price and her aggregation at Center Date accept done a admirable job of creating an inviting, absorbing atmosphere about the show. You can airing through the adventure of Alice in Wonderland, complete with quotes and illustrations from the book acting as signposts forth the way.
All in all, I achievement that this is a fun, attainable actualization that inspires bodies to actualization an old book with a alpha eye, and maybe ascertain some new artists in the process. And bodies accept been admiring with the consistently aerial affection of the work, the advanced array of styles, and the fun of seeing so abounding altered interpretations of a acclaimed story. They additionally acknowledge how blithe the actualization is. It’s a actual alpha and active collection.
Dooley: What aggressive “Off with Their Heads”?
Robin: From the beginning, I knew that I capital to do article with the Queen of Hearts. She is aloof too abundant fun as a character: bombastic, petty, dangerous, and beyond than life. She additionally provides a fun adverse to Alice, who is about candied and polite. Throughout best of the story, Alice bows to the whims of those she encounters, consistently carper herself. Aback she alcove the Queen, though, she assuredly finds her feet. In continuing up to the Queen—defending the gardeners from her fury—Alice arcs badly as a character. I adore this moment of backbone in Alice. I adulation the angel of a tiny babe continuing up to this barefaced burlesque of rage, staring her down, and adage “No!”
Dooley: Okay, now booty me through your process.
Robin: With a activity like this, I alpha with the story. I apprehend and think, appraise and daydream, and apprehend again. Afresh I usually go on Pinterest and accomplish afflatus boards, acquisition the kinds of colors, shapes, and capacity that I absurd in my “moodling” sessions. I afresh set those abreast and go aback to the pictures in my head.
My aboriginal assets are fabricated by attractive inward. I don’t accompany out my advertence afresh until the additional or third pass. I do this to accord my thoughts some breath room, so that I’m cartoon from the affect and account abaft the arena rather than artful a picture. My aboriginal sketches are actual rough, aloof alive out gestures, shapes, and poses. Aback I acquisition one that feels right, I browse it, enlarge it, and alteration it to analogy board. I may or may not do a amount or blush study, depending on how complicated the account is.
I accomplish my final cartoon in red and dejected Col-Erase pencils, application red for balmy tones and dejected for air-conditioned tones. From there, I body up blush in attenuate layers of acrylics. At this point, I’ll accredit aback to my advertence boards for specific capacity and blush relationships. I accumulate layering and layering until the account looks glow-y and full. I sometimes accomplishment off with a baby liner brush, “drawing” in the final capacity in a aphotic or saturated color.
Dooley: What about your art influences?
Robin: I took afflatus for my agreement and the architectonics of the Queen anon from Tenniel’s aboriginal illustration. I capital to pay admiration to the book and additionally comedy about with Tenniel’s designs, which are heavily Victorian and altered from my accepted architectonics choices. So I swiped the pose, the hairstyle and dress for the Queen and started arena about with them. I capital to acquisition article that looked both old and new.
I knew from the alpha that there would be some Disney influence. I owe a abundant debt to artists like Mary Blair and Freddy Moore. Their active colors and artless access to shapes has been a around-the-clock antecedent of afflatus to me. Lately, I’ve additionally been absorbed by the works of Hayao Miyazaki. There is a quiet backbone to his heroines that I acquisition abundantly appealing. So there’s a bit of Miyazaki in there, too.
Finally, my adolescent artists consistently activation me on to try new things, advance myself, and accumulate growing. As added artists’ contributions to the actualization began bustling up in my Instagram feed, I begin a renewed faculty of purpose and challenge. I was reminded that I was not active this chase alone, but alongside abounding wonderful, strong, and adept people.
Dooley: And how does the accomplished allotment chronicle to your career?
Robin: For me, this account of Alice and the Queen of Hearts is a admirable antithesis of my action and analogy aesthetics. It has a nice faculty of exaggeration and burlesque to it, as one would apprehend of action art. However, there’s additionally a artlessness in the account that seems to accord in the apple of book illustration, accurately in Alice’s face and in the best to bead out all but the best actual elements of the background.
Beyond that, this allotment reminds me that I’m at a point in my career aback I’m able to advice added artists by putting on shows like this. My aisle seems to be aberration yet again. I can feel new avenues aperture up.
It can be appealing alarming at times, but it’s exciting, too: actual abundant like a airing through Wonderland.
After Casey and I aboriginal had the abstraction of accomplishing the actualization I abounding my sketchbook to the border with sketches, ideas, and accessible designs from the Alice in Wonderland books. I advised pages and pages of the Queen of Hearts. I started with personality, exploring a ambit of affections and actions. Afresh I began my research. I pulled afflatus from actualization designers like Guo Pei and Alexander McQueen and of course, Queen Elizabeth I. Analysis helps acquaint your architectonics and accommodate capacity my acuteness adeptness accept disregarded such as those ample Elizabethan sleeves.
As a able artisan I’m usually alive digitally. However, in my claimed projects I try to claiming myself by exploring new mediums alfresco the computer. It’s important to me that I accumulate experimenting, learning, and growing. Adhesive sculptures are tactile, messy, and fun, and still allotment the multi-layered characteristics of my agenda work.
Resin is additionally permanent, which affected me to be actual advised in my process. There’s no annul button, so aggregate had to be able-bodied planned. Afresh I poured, painted, cut paper, corrective some more, and afresh the action assorted times over several weeks to get the adapted abyss while alienated air bubbles, cracks, and the aberrant dog beard that accordingly fabricated its way into every piece.
When I abutting the actualization it was a a bit backward in the schedule, so this allotment was added of a actualization abstraction than a able illustration. My ambition was to portray the blitheness Tweedle Dee and Dum assume to accept in their recitations and to actualize a actual fun, childish, antic adaptation of these two. Aback time was abbreviate for me on this, the abstraction was to accumulate the action simple and absolutely advance the arch joy these characters accept aback they allocution circles about Alice.
My capital afflatus came from artists such as Sir John Tenniel, Willy Maltaite, and Bill Peet. They all had a absurd faculty of shape, construction, and storytelling.
Coming from Oxfordshire, area Lewis Carroll wrote the book, my adolescence was spent punting on the Thames and accepting picnics on the riverbank, bubbler tea from Edwardian china, and ambuscade tiny treasures in aerial holes. Admired my leather-bound archetype of the book I had as a child.
Although there are a abundant cardinal of artists I adore and who accept afflicted me throughout my life, I accomplish a acquainted accomplishment not to attending at too abundant assignment on a agnate topic, lest I be – subconsciously – afflicted and run the blow of my assignment not activity my own. I revisited the book for the aboriginal time aback I was about ten and remembered how I’d pictured the arena as a child. I assuredly looked at added artists’ Alice in Wonderland assignment afterwards I completed my allotment and admired all the assorted interpretations I saw.
As a miniature archetypal maker I actualize calibration pieces for all sorts of purposes, including the ball industry, editorial, advertising, and for clandestine collections. Sometimes the affair is beneath than agitative for me, so aback asked to actualize article for an Alice exhibition I was captivated and accessible to accept fun with the accountable matter. It was additionally a amusement aback my best contempo exhibition was in Shanghai, Ceramics and I was activated to display appealing abundant actuality on my doorstep.
The tea affair is ablaze because it’s so English and un-English at the aforementioned time. Additionally there’s amenities afterwards decorum, riddles afterwards answers, and assuredly an affronted Alice throwing her easily in the air and affronted off. Like best of my miniature pieces I did some analysis for inspiration, sketched account on paper, and fabricated a asperous 3-dimensional adaptation in cardboard. I afresh started to body it application wood, wire, and clay.
The allotment I created is in 1:12 scale. This agency 1 inch represents 1 bottom in the absolute world. So my Mad Hatter and March Hare would admeasurement about 5’5″ in absolute life. About aggregate was fabricated application Cool Sculpey clay, including the furniture, clothing, and food. The tiny bogie cakes – English appellation for cupcakes – are abate than peas, and the teapots could fit on a penny. Alive in miniature is article I adulation because the worlds you actualize are bound abandoned by the admeasurement of your assignment amplitude and your imagination.
The Alice actualization is actual abundant aggressive by myself, because I’m a atramentous babe who at the time of cartoon this had blush hair. As an artisan of color, I try to be actual assorted in the art that I actualize for my “Love, Teacup Kisses” art cast by including women of altered bark tones while befitting my art playful, silly, sassy, and cute.
I started off with a quick account in my sketchbook which I re-worked until I got article I liked. I afresh acclimated my accessible Copic Markers and began actualization away. I was blessed with the accomplished cartoon but acquainted it bare a little bit added assignment so I bankrupt up the angel in Photoshop.
When my parents aboriginal alien the book to me as a child, it was absurd for me not to be fatigued to a adventure about a babe with a big acuteness who gets transported into a absurd apple of talking animals and maniacal monarchs. Especially aback I was accepted for accepting absolutely the acuteness myself. Mr. Carroll wrote with such whimsy and fun that I couldn’t advice but become a fan of the material. And my adulation for the adventure abandoned grew aback I got to watch Disney’s activated affection as able-bodied as the endless altered adaptations in blur and print. It fabricated me feel as if Alice’s adventures could go on forever, and I admired the abstraction that her adventure would never be absolutely finished.
I best the Cheshire Cat as my muse. He has a civil agreeableness and and a acrimonious attitude which is so audibly cat-like admitting his adeptness to antipodal like a human. Not abandoned is he one of the added iconic characters in the belief but he additionally has some of the best iconic lines, one which I best out to acrylic on the “drink me” canteen tag. And of advance there’s his best iconic smile.
My action is appealing typical. I abrupt myself in books and the works of artists that affect me. I put on bags of music alignment from the aboriginal 20th Century to Disney classics. I assignment chiefly at night, aback the bottom cartage about my abode – and the apple at ample – is at a minimum. Caffeinated beverages additionally comedy a above role in the aesthetic undertaking.
There are so abounding artists whose works I’ve appear to adore – from the aboriginal pieces of John Tenniel and Mary Blair to the artists who alternate in this actualization – that it’s difficult to quantify how abundant they appulse me and my art. I’m consistently alert of them to a assertive extent. They are all over my assignment in agreement of actualization and best of blush palettes. If not literally, afresh they’re absolutely the ammunition in my aesthetic engines. But at some point during the action you accept to focus on your present allotment and assurance that you’ve researched abundant to springboard you accomplished an antecedent abstraction and to get you about that’s your personal, aboriginal territory.
Delve into the active history of abreast analogy with Fifty Years of Analogy by Lawrence Zeegen and Caroline Roberts.
I anticipate I own my affection for books and belief to Little Alice. It’s been my admired book aback I was a little kid. I aloof capital to be Alice so bad, and be allotment of that world. And I capital to see how I could actualize Wonderland. Aback I started, well, I was abashed because I didn’t knew what to do. Plus I knew I was activity to be in the arcade amidst by amazing artists as well, and I didn’t appetite to accomplish article bad. But I took the claiming because I adulation challenges. I actualize mini-worlds and belief professionally, and every adventure I do is a new challenge. I approved to anticipate alfresco of my abundance zone, so I went to the adeptness abundance and, well, I went crazy! Aback they were affairs me a anatomy I was already seeing a tea affair inside, and I could already see and apprehend Alice with her squeaky voice. I aloof got a lot of accidental actuality and got cool aflame about putting it together.
This is activity to complete actual bad, I think, but I don’t absolutely adore that abounding artists. I can do art, so I absorb best of my time attractive at added things that I can’t do, and that inspires me a lot. I adore photographers, sculptors, writers, blur makers. I anticipate my assignment has a bit of all that. And I accept that’s why it’s so accidental as well.
I’ve been a fan of Alice in Wonderland because of its surreal and aesthetic estimation of reality. I adulation Carroll’s array of awe-inspiring and arresting characters, so abounding of peculiarities and a mix of acidity with a bit of a aphotic undertone. The Queen is such an alarming actuality with her acerbity and acerbity that we can about chronicle to some absolute apple bodies that we know. Alice, on the added hand, is allegedly a candied little kid that we appear to apperceive as a able and adventurous babe who is not abashed of activity into this apple of nonsense.
The action was interesting. It was activity to the alien and diving in afterwards alive what was next. I started these pieces afterwards any thumbnails studies and concluded up with article I was admiring with. I was activity in a cuter administration but I concluded up with a darker tone. I consistently admired Sir John Tenniel’s illustrations. I acquainted like it was appropriate to go aback to the acceptable pen and ink style, which additionally relates to my assignment and who I am as an artist.
In this allotment I capital to reflect a absurd but yet candied moment amid Alice and the White Rabbit, and to add a bit of amusement as well. My ambition is to accomplish the eyewitness relate, smile, or feel article added than attractive at a appealing painting. I would say if they accept smiled they fabricated my day!
My aboriginal addition to Alice was through the iconic activated Disney movie. I bethink actuality abashed of it as a child. I couldn’t accept why anybody was so beggarly to poor Alice! Nowadays, I’m consistently up for a awful call of the archetypal series. Afterwards painting several other, shall we say, “brighter” scenes from the book, I knew I capital to acrylic article darker. Article moodier. And no one is added angry than the Queen of Hearts! I absurd the Queen as actuality some array of angry actualization figure that incorporates her victims into her architectonics and wardrobe. Afresh afterwards I thought, “What would appear if the Queen did abduction Alice?” I’d like to anticipate this beautiful adjudicator would accumulate Alice about for a while… afore axis her into some array of mantelpiece. But Alice won’t be trapped in the mirror forever!
Whenever I anticipate of aphotic fantasy and opulence, I consistently anticipate of couture. Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood accept consistently been a huge antecedent of afflatus for me, and I absolutely capital to accompany that aforementioned activity to this piece. If I had my way, anybody would dress as abundantly as their girls.
Whether it’s a cine or an illustration, the adroitness abaft Alice’s attending is article that can be approached from so abounding altered perspectives. It’s amazing to see how one person’s abstraction of Alice can be so altered from another’s, and yet still accept those elements of her actualization that we acquisition accessible to chronicle to. One adduce that has consistently stood out to me is: “And she approved to adorned what the blaze of a candle is like afterwards the candle is absolute out, for she could not bethink anytime accepting apparent such a thing.” I adulation this because, to me, it relates aback to apperception how to architectonics what actualization adeptness attending like. How do you brainstorm article that doesn’t exist? And afresh little $.25 and pieces appear together, like amphibian addle pieces, and aback you’ve got a aggregate of little aboveboard hands, billowy hair, and a face, that you alpha to end up affectionate of liking.
I was sitting at a coffee shop, abstraction while cat-and-mouse for a friend. I had aloof been arrive to the show, and didn’t accept a bright abstraction of what I capital to do yet. It was affectionate of an blow that I drew Alice while waiting. One minute I was exploring shapes, and in the abutting came Alice. Once I drew her, I capital to accumulate cartoon her, over and over again, hardly alteration little things every time.
My assignment is consistently aggressive by added artists, and I adulation browsing Pinterest and award things I aloof accept to add to my pin boards. My buzz is abounding of screenshots, taken aback I’m out and about and see a acquaintance column article amazing. I anticipate that accession helps to affect me to try things I’d like to apprentice how to do better.
When I was a kid, my grandma gave me a pop-up book of “Jabberwocky,” one of the nonsense balladry from Through the Attractive Glass. My mom eventually got rid of it afterwards cogent me because it creeped her out. The art in it was both awful and mesmerizing, and I was enchanted. On a contempo ancestors appointment with my grandma, the accountable of the agreement came up and, abundant to the abruptness of my family, we were able to recite it calm in bike on the spot. I anticipate I was absolutely fatigued to Carrol’s adeptness to accomplish a adamant adventure out of nonsense. It’s a lot like aback you attending carefully at a painting from far abroad and see a picture, but acquisition that the besom acclamation attending like accidental blobs up close.
My action is actual methodical, conceivably too abundant so. Aboriginal I re-listened to Alice on audiobook in my car, and fabricated lists of aggregate I anticipation adeptness be fun to illustrate. Lists are usually a key allotment of my process. I get ashore if I don’t adapt all of my ideas. Afresh I did a lot of research, affairs afflatus on Pinterest. Pinterest is amazing for angel searches aback it’s “curated.” Unlike a Google, every angel was alleged by a animal and adored because it’s pretty. Afresh I did thumbnails, and procrastinated until I saw a account on Instagram of a babe authoritative a funny face, and I anticipation of the Cheshire Cat with his too-wide smile.
I absolutely like the Cheshire Cat, because he’s the abandoned actualization who seems to be adequate in Wonderland, rather than a abashed victim of the ever-changing whims of added characters and Wonderland itself. Alice is appealing abandoned through abundant of the story, and abandoned gets absolutely advantageous advice from the Cheshire Cat. It’s abandoned at the end of the adventure that Alice absolutely takes allegation and stands up to the Queen and her court. I admired the abstraction of assuming Alice goofing off with the Cheshire Cat, because I brainstorm them to be friends, and I anticipate she abstruse a lot from the Cat about the appropriate attitude against Wonderland, to aloof be yourself and cycle with the nonsense.
I assignment as a toy artisan at Disney customer products, designing dolls and toys for girls ages about four to twelve. Best job ever! I absorb a lot of time cerebration about how little girls play, and they’re about acutely silly. Alice is six years old, and actual imaginative, so although she’s generally portrayed as absolutely proper, I anticipate of her as actuality a absolute absurd goofball. I capital to actualization her aloof actuality a happy, assured and antic kid. I anticipate this additionally comes beyond in her toes [laughs].
I was additionally afraid to ascertain that there’s about no concrete description of Alice’s actualization anywhere in the book! Because this actualization is based on the book, I carefully fabricated an accomplishment not to dress my Alice like the iconic Disney character, alike admitting a albino babe in a dejected dress with a white accessory and a atramentous chaplet is actual recognizable. Instead I dressed her array of how kids dress themselves aback they aces their own clothes, because I feel like Alice is a babe who would accomplish her own decisions.
And sometimes I “redline” my own work. Aback I acquisition myself aloof staring at it cerebration about all the things that bother me, I amphitheater all of the botheration areas and address myself addendum about them. Afresh I fix anniversary one and abolish the note. Afresh I’ve additionally been authoritative myself a blush arrangement afore I start, and afraid to it! This is consistently a claiming aback I appetite to use all the colors. I’d additionally been absolutely disturbing with the composition, until I begin a address alleged “Informal Subdivision” that I afresh abstruse about on Kali Ciesemier’s blog; she originally got it from Andrew Loomis. I acclimated breezy subdivision for the aboriginal time in this allotment and it absolutely helped.
I additionally actualization my assignment in advance to my added artisan friends, and carnality versa. Katia Grifols, who’s additionally in the show, came over to my abode one weekend to assignment on her allotment while I did mine, which fabricated it added fun. We managed to abstain addict by demography a breach in the average of the day to go accidental art accumulation shopping: the best kind!
When account the book I consistently anticipation the cloister arena was actual able to me. It reminded me of my nightmares as a little girl. In my nightmares I acquainted like aggregate is out of my ascendancy and I’m too little to save myself. With this allotment I capital to accomplish the eyewitness feel like they were Alice, baby and powerless.
I was afflicted by Orientalist masters that I’ve been attractive at lately. One of them I absolutely adore is Jean-Léon Gérôme and his way of application agreement to acquaint a story. I’m application a triangle agreement that mainly focuses on Alice and the Queen. I chose to do a three-point perspective: attractive up to accomplish the Queen added able and Alice at our eye akin to accord the apparition of actuality there with her.
I’ve been actual afflicted by Sir John Tenniel’s illustrations, and a lot of added artists aggressive my work: Frank Frazetta and Norman Rockwell, Rodin, Claire Wendling, Ivan Bilibin, Akseli Gallen-Kallela, etc.
Through my art I like to accompany bodies aback to their childhood, to archness and absorbing memories. Peter Brown is one of my admired children’s book artists. I like his simple clear actualization a lot, and am aggressive by him.
